Lenormand oracle: the 36 cards and their meanings
    Psychic & TarotPublished on September 18, 20263 min read34

Lenormand oracle: the 36 cards and their meanings

More direct than tarot, Lenormand answers the practical. Here are the 36 cards, their short meaning and the logic of combinations.

An oracle that gets straight to the point

The Petit Lenormand takes its name from Marie-Anne Lenormand, a French cartomancer of the 19th century. Unlike tarot, it does not look for symbolic depth: it describes facts, people, objects, timings. Where tarot asks "what does this mean to you?", Lenormand answers "here is what is happening".

That is what makes it valuable for practical questions: paperwork, a move, the attitude of someone close, the timeline of a project.

The 36 cards at a glance

    • 1 Rider: news, a visit, quick movement.
    • 2 Clover: small luck, a passing bit of help.
    • 3 Ship: travel, distance, trade.
    • 4 House: home, stability, family.
    • 5 Tree: health, roots, the long term.
    • 6 Clouds: confusion, doubt, incomplete information.
    • 7 Snake: a detour, a complication, a cunning person.
    • 8 Coffin: an ending, transformation, tiredness.
    • 9 Bouquet: a gift, pleasure, an invitation.
    • 10 Scythe: a clean cut, an abrupt decision.
    • 11 Whip: repetition, argument, physical effort.
    • 12 Birds: conversations, restlessness, a couple.
    • 13 Child: novelty, innocence, something small.
    • 14 Fox: caution, work, useful mistrust.
    • 15 Bear: strength, authority, money, a protective figure.
    • 16 Stars: clarity, direction, a network.
    • 17 Stork: change, relocation, birth.
    • 18 Dog: loyalty, reliable friendship.
    • 19 Tower: an institution, isolation, stepping back.
    • 20 Garden: the public, a meeting, a collective event.
    • 21 Mountain: an obstacle, a blockage, a delay.
    • 22 Crossroads: a choice, an alternative, a fork.
    • 23 Mice: wear, slow loss, stress.
    • 24 Heart: affection, love, generosity.
    • 25 Ring: commitment, a contract, a cycle.
    • 26 Book: a secret, learning, what is left unsaid.
    • 27 Letter: writing, a message, a document.
    • 28 Man / 29 Woman: the person concerned by the question.
    • 30 Lily: serenity, maturity, a peaceful family.
    • 31 Sun: success, energy, the obvious.
    • 32 Moon: recognition, emotion, a night rhythm.
    • 33 Key: a solution, an opening, certainty.
    • 34 Fish: resources, financial flow, abundance.
    • 35 Anchor: lasting stability, work that holds.
    • 36 Cross: an ordeal, a weight, an obligation.

    The logic of combinations

Lenormand is never read card by card. Two cards side by side form an expression: the first qualifies, the second states the field.

    • Letter + Heart: an affectionate message.
    • Heart + Letter: a feeling put in writing.
    • Mountain + Crossroads: a blocked choice.
    • Crossroads + Mountain: a decision that creates an obstacle.

Order matters as much as the pair itself. This grammar is what makes the oracle precise.

    Start with three cards

A line of three is the best starting exercise: the middle card carries the subject, the outer ones qualify it. You read from left to right, like a sentence, without hunting for hidden symbolism.

Lenormand describes trends and situations; it replaces neither medical advice, nor a legal or financial decision.

    Try it yourself

You can draw a Lenormand reading online, or discuss it with one of our psychics for a guided interpretation.
