Why start with the elements

Comparing two signs one by one gives 78 combinations. That is a lot, and it hides the essential. Astrologers look at the element first, because it describes a person's rhythm: their speed, the way they decide, what reassures them.

The twelve signs fall into four families:

• Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius — momentum, enthusiasm, action before reflection.
• Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn — the concrete, duration, proof through facts.
• Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius — ideas, exchange, a need for mental space.
• Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces — emotion, intuition, depth of connection.

Natural affinities

Two patterns almost always work.

The same element: you understand each other without translating. Two water signs grasp what is left unsaid immediately, two earth signs share the same relationship with time. The risk is a closed circle, with no counterpoint.

Complementary elements: fire and air feed each other, air carries fire. Earth and water nourish each other too, water makes earth fertile. These are the most lasting pairings because each brings what the other lacks.

The pairs that need adjusting

Fire and water: one wants to move forward, the other wants to feel. The relationship can be intense, but each has to accept the other's tempo. Fire learns not to rush, water learns not to read into everything.
